Rules and Regulations

The IKEA {{ origin }} Young Designer Award is open to all students and undergraduates who are currently enrolled full-time in tertiary institutions in {{ origin }}.

Participation is on an individual basis or in groups of up to 3 persons.

Each participant/group may only submit ONE entry.

It is free to join.

All entries must be new, original and unpublished – never featured in any media channels or design competitions/awards.

During this initial phase of the competition, participants will be required to submit a product design or app design in accordance with the Challenge brief: Design a future without Food Waste.

What you need to submit:

Complete the submission template with a Design or visual artwork saved in PDF format

Submissions must be completed using the template provided

File size - maximum of 8mb (300dpi), only one file may be submitted for entry

Print size – A3 (420 x 297mm) landscape

Take note!

Your entry should fully answer the questions. All entries should include a visual representation of the concept i.e artwork of the porduct, graphic illustration if it is a mobile app solution, or a visual storyboard of the social initiaive plan or steps to encourage change behaviour or awareness on food waste.

5. During your course of dealing with us, IKEA Southeast Asia may have, and / or will collect, use, disclose and process the participant’s / participants personal data for purposes, including, to communicate with the participant in relation to this competition. In order to conduct this competition in a smooth manner, we may also be disclosing the personal data you have provided to us to our third party service providers, agents and/or our affiliates or related corporations, and/or other third parties whether sited in Singapore or outside of Singapore, for one or more of the above- stated Purposes. Such third-party service providers, agents and/or affiliates or related corporations and/or other third parties would be processing your personal data either on our behalf or otherwise, for the above-stated Purpose.

6. Participants may be approached by IKEA Southeast Asia to be interviewed by the media in their capacity as a participant of the IKEA Southeast Asia’s Young Designer Award.

7. If the specified prize is unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances, IKEA Southeast Asia (Ikano Pte Ltd) may substitute another prize of similar or equal value.

8. All dates and time reference are based on Singapore GMT +8 Standard Time Zone.

9. By entering this competition, all participants will be deemed to have accepted and agreed to be bound by these terms and conditions.

10. IKEA Southeast Asia (Ikano Pte Ltd) reserve the right to alter any competition rules at any time without giving prior notice to participants.

Phase One: Submission

1. Your concept or solution must address how we can inspire or encourage change behaviour in reducing food waste. Your idea can be:

A product design

A social movement or community initiative

A technological solution or application

A combination of the above

2. The judges’ decision is final and IKEA Southeast Asia reserves the right to reject any online submission that it deems illegible, incomplete, damaged, plagiarized, past the entry submission deadline during oand for any other reasons it deems inappropriate.

3. Poor quality or illegible submissions will be difficult to judge and will be dropped from the competition.

Phase Two: Prototyping

1. Finalists teams will be required to submit a finished prototype, 3-D model, graphic simulation of their mobile/ technological application concept that would show well at an external display. All finalists must submit a 1-min video explaining their concept. Failing to produce and submit either will result in a disqualification from the competition.

2. Prototypes and teams will be required to attend a photoshoot to showcase they design concept and team/ individual photo on the event website to proceed further in the competition.

Phase Three: Grand Finale & Exhibition

1. Participants must be present to pitch their idea and concept in person or virtually if overseas, failing which, they will not be able to compete for the prizes and People's Choice Award.

2. Participants must adhere to safe distancing measures at all face to face events, maintain the safe distaining measures, wearing of masks etc.

3. The voting for the People's Choice Award will take place online on IKEA's YDA website from 15 to 25 July.

4. Finalist with the most votes will win the People's Choice Award and a $300 IKEA gift card. Three (3) random lucky voters who picked the winning team will win a $50 IKEA gift card.
